Anniversary couples session | Wisconsin wilderness

It seems that the older I get, the faster time seems to pass. It feels like just a few years ago that I was photographing my brother Dan and his bride, Shannon, getting married on a beach in Mexico. Fast forward to this November and they are about to celebrate their eight...yes, eight-year anniversary! They are a couple who have grown stronger, closer, and more in love over the years, and it hasn't always been easy. With Dan in the Navy, they have moved across the country away from everything they have known multiple times, been separated by distance and most communication when Dan was on an aircraft carrier, and survived a four-year medical residency. Through everything, they have been completely devoted to each other, and their relationship has been an inspiration to me.

We decided to mark their upcoming celebration with a Wisconsin anniversary session when I was home over Thanksgiving. Shannon and I shared ideas and inspiration through Pinterest and decided on a sunset photo session on her parents' land outside of Waupaca, WI. Being deer hunting season, my assistant (a.k.a. husband) and I were dressed in blaze orange, and with the chilly weather we also kept the Jeep running for warm up breaks. Shannon and Dan were such great sports, and we were blessed with beautiful, clear skies that made for the most beautiful sunset. Now the only problem is how to choose which of my favorite photos to include!

A little glimpse behind the scenes. I'm gladly wearing that blaze orange and climbing to the perfect vantage point.

I love their blue eyes and Shannon's cape was part of a Halloween costume from high school!

As avid multi-generational Jeep owners, we had to get a photo with theirs - a la James Bond. I threw in a little flash so that we could get that gorgeous sunset while keeping them exposed correctly. I love a dramatic end!
