When Michael and I were in Phoenix for Christmas, I got to take beauty portraits of his mom, Barbara. She is one of the kindest, most gentle souls I know and I am so lucky that she is my mother-in-law. Along with being a wonderful mother to four grown children, she is also a librarian, speaks Spanish fluently, and volunteers in education at The Desert Botanical Garden. If you are ever in the area, you should definitely make visiting it a priority!
Since we drove to Phoenix from the Bay Area, I brought most of my studio equipment, so I was able to take a variety of photographs for Barbara. I love photographing women who are over forty because they know who they are and I enjoy showing them how beautiful they are. This culture is obsessed with youth which is detrimental to women of all ages. There is so much beauty in confidence, wisdom, and a life well-lived, and I love being able to capture that.
We began the portrait session with a focus on professional photographs and utilized my studio lighting and white, seamless background. Then progressed to natural light and beauty portraits. Thank you, Barbara!
